Update to Sketchbook Project 2012

It has been a while since I have posted on my blog, but I wanted to update anyone who was planning on going to the Sketchbook Project show in San Francisco. The update is that it won't be in San Francisco anymore it will be in Oakland. If you are wondering where and when in Oakland I am going to tell you.

Where: 1485 9th Street, Suite 100 Oakland, California
When:  June 1st - 20th, 1-5pm daily

So if you are in Northern California and want to go see it then that will be your best chance. It will be in Oakland for almost a month. I hope everyone gets to go see it. I am considering doing the Sketchbook Project 2013 as well. I will try to be better at posting on my blog.

Sketchbook Project 2012 Completed!

It has been months since I last posted. Since then the holidays have come and gone and the Sketchbook Project deadline has come to pass. I mailed my sketch book project back to NY however I did take some pictures before I mailed it back. My sketchbook was post marked by the deadline so it should go out on tour starting this April. If you are in Southern California and can make to L.A. to an art gallery called iam8bit. The Sketchbook Project will be there May 24th-26th. If you are in Northern California and can get to S.F. there will be what they are calling a Pop-Up Shop from June 2nd - 23rd. I don't know where in S.F. it is going to be yet because it is not posted on the site. For the other cities that the Sketchbook Project is going to they are:

-Brooklyn, NY
-Chicago, IL
-Portland, OR
-Greater Boston Area
-Portland, ME
-Vancouver, Canada
-Toronto, Canada
-Philadelphia, PA
-Atlanta, GA
-Austin, TX

Not it that order, but if you are in or near any of those cities and want to know when it is coming to you go here: http://ow.ly/8QENX

I wanted to do the Sketchbook Project because I wanted to prove to myself that I could still draw. Before I started down this path I had stopped drawing for about 3 years. So my skills were not exactly what they used to be. My drawing ability still isn't what it could be but I feel good about what I have drawn. Now I feel like I have accomplished something that means something to me and not just homework. I had fun doing this and the Art House Co-op is amazing for putting this on.

If you can make it to one of the stops on the Sketchbook Project art tour check out my book, but also take the time to look at as many of the other sketchbooks that are on the tour as well. A lot of work goes into the sketchbook that get submitted. I plan on going to one of the days in LA. If you can't make it to on of the stops, here are the pictures that I took of my drawings. My theme was Tree-house.

If you do end up going to a show enjoy it. If not I hope you enjoyed my drawings.

Dates for the Sketchbook Project

I am excited to see that dates for when and where the sketchbook project is going to be are getting set. If you are like me and live in CA you have two chances to see the sketchbook project. One is San Francisco and the other in Los Angeles. If you are in So.Cal. May 24th - 26th at iam8bit and if you are in Nor. Cal. it will be June 2nd - 23rd. San Francisco doesn't have a place as to where it's going to be yet but it has a date. If you live outside of the CA then you will have to check the Sketchbook Project tour dates on their website.

Sketchbook Project Begins

I have received my sketchbook! So now begins the drawing and filling the sketchbook with my imagination. I selected the theme of Treehouse. Now the theme doesn't mean that everything in the sketchbook has to be a treehouse. It's more of a guideline than a theme.

My braining is working in overdrive about what I want to draw in the sketchbook, but that is what it is all about. Having fun and creating new pieces of artwork for the public to see when it goes out on tour. I am excited to say the least about my drawings going around with all the other sketchbooks. This is something that I have never done before, but sounds like tons of fun. Plus the tour is coming to So.Cal. which means I will be able to go and see it when it come around here. Or make a trip up to San Francisco when it happens there. However, in order for that to happen I have to get started and have my sketchbook back in Brooklyn Art Library by the end of January. If anyone wants to join the sketchbook project you just have to sign up before October 31st and the tour starts in April 2012.

Happy drawing everyone!

Sketchbook Project 2012

I signed up for the Sketchbook Project 2012!
My sketchbook will be on its way to be I'm sure within the week, and will most likely get it by next week or the week after. The Sketchbook Project is an art show that will feature all the sketchbooks that are sent back by the end of January to the Brooklyn Art Library. The art show will go around the country (US and Canada) letting people check out the different sketchbooks. Each sketchbook has a theme that the artist selects, or random selection is an option. I decided to go with the theme of: Treehouse. The tour will start in April of 2012 and for all you California people they have two stops scheduled. One is in one of my favorite cities, San Francisco, and one down here in Los Angeles. I encourage anyone to at least check out the site and see what it is all about it. Also join the Sketchbook Project if it spikes your interest.

The Tools and Projects

Ever artist has the tools that they prefer to use. I like using a non-photo blue pencil and a .9 mechanical pencil. Lately I have been using my gray scale prismacolor pens.

As far as what I prefer to use that's about it. I have been trying to teach myself how to air brush. It has been great for the few things that I have used it on. There are some projects that I will be doing that I am going to post on. The first is a book called Cartooning - Philosophy and Practice by Ivan Brunetti, and the second (once I sign up for it) is the Sketchbook Project. I will be signing up for the Sketchbook Project as soon as I am able to. These are the two main things for now that I will be posting on.

Welcome!

Welcome to Ant Farm
This is where I will be putting images of my drawings and hopefully use this as a portfolio web site. My name is Anthony but Ant for short. I am a animator (at least that's what my art degree says) and drawing is what I prefer to do. I draw mostly cartoons. I don't have a web site for any of my art work so I am going to start here. Everyone has to start some where and it normally at the bottom. So here is to looking up.
